Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has achieved a joint second position among Bangladeshi universities participating in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2024. In this year’s THE Asia University (Regional) Rankings, BAU has shown notable progress, securing a position between 351 and 400, a significant improvement from its previous ranking of 401-500 in 2023. Notably, BAU’s score increased to 31.8 in 2024, up from around 24 in the previous year, reflecting both an enhanced ranking and a higher score.
This year, a total of nine universities in Bangladesh have secured positions in the THE Asia University Rankings 2024.
On May 3rd, at 10 a.m., a press conference was convened at the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of universities, where the Director and additional directors of IQAC addressed the media. The press conference took place at the IQAC office conference room, with notable attendees including Professor Dr. Sukumar Saha, Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Specialist Member of the Ranking Committee of IQAC, Professor Dr. M. Nahid Sattar, Additional Director, and Professor Dr. Jahan Ara Begum.
Commenting on this achievement, Professor Dr. Emadul Haque Chowdhury, the Vice-Chancellor of BAU, expressed pride in the university’s improved rankings. He emphasized the ongoing need for enhancement, highlighting the substantial contributions that faculty members, many of whom hold PhD degrees from esteemed international universities, can make through quality research, education, and global collaborations. However, he acknowledged two primary challenges: the insufficiency of budget allocation in the education sector and the inconsistent research environment. Addressing these issues, he believes, will propel BAU to surpass its peers in future rankings.
