Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has allocated $2 million from his XO Humanitarian Fund to supply 18 million loaves of bread, aiding families in Gaza. This donation, coordinated with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), will furnish 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour, sustaining over 157,000 Palestinians. This follows a previous contribution of $2.5 million in December 2023, which facilitated 820 metric tons of food parcels, feeding 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks. The Weeknd urges his fans to join in supporting those in need in Gaza.
This act of philanthropy adds to The Weeknd’s ongoing charitable endeavors. In January, he supported School on Wheels, aiding over 1,000 homeless students in Los Angeles. Over recent years, he has generously contributed to charitable causes in Ethiopia, Lebanon, Covid relief efforts, and more.
Corinne Fleischer, WFP’s Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe Region, expressed gratitude for The Weeknd’s support, emphasizing its critical role in addressing the looming famine in Gaza. Barron Segar, President and CEO of World Food Program USA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the solvability of hunger with adequate funding and safe access. Thanks to The Weeknd’s commitment, families and children in Gaza will receive vital food assistance.
