WCC Celebrates World Bicycle Day at BAU

The Women’s Cycling Club (WCC) at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated World Bicycle Day with vibrant festivities. The club organized a colorful cycling rally, pigeon release, cake cutting, seminar, and cultural program to mark the occasion. The event was supported by BAU Green Voice and Dreamission.

On Monday, June 3rd, at 5:30 PM, the rally was inaugurated with a pigeon release at the university’s helipad by the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Awal. The rally commenced at the helipad, passing through the front road of  the Botanical Garden, and concluded at Abdul Jobbar Mor. Faculties and students from various departments participated in the rally. Following the rally, a cake-cutting ceremony was held, and a seminar took place in the TSC mini conference room. During this session, prizes were distributed to eight students who had won an online art exhibition contest held earlier.

The discussion meeting was presided over by the President of the WCC , Professor Dr. Shirin Akter from the Department of Parasitology, and conducted by the club’s General Secretary, Sanjina Tasnuva Mishu. The acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Awal, attended the event as the chief guest, while Professor Dr. Md. Abu Hadi Noor Ali Khan, Coordinator of the committee for Advanced Studies & Research, and Professor Dr. Md. Harun-Ur-Rashid, Advisor of Students’ Affairs Division, were  present as special guests. The event was attended by teachers and students from various departments.

In his speech, Professor Dr Md. Abdul Awal emphasized that bicycles are environmentally friendly vehicles. He highlighted that, with the support of the Women’s Cycling Club, female students can easily commute within the university. He stressed the importance of ensuring that roads within the university are safe and unobstructed for female cyclists and advocated for designated cycling lanes for women.
