Pritom Hasan, in his role as music producer, collaborates with the Dewan family duo, Shagor Dewan and Arif Dewan, whose ancestor originally penned the song Ma Lo Ma Jhilojhi. Together, they breathe new life into the song, each adding their unique touch.
Ma Lo Ma delves into the profound realization that life is a journey marked by the inevitable transition into adulthood, juxtaposed with the longing for the simplicity of the past. The song serves as a poignant dialogue acknowledging this natural progression, employing the metaphor of a broken boat representing life and a river symbolizing the world.
Adding layers of complexity to the song is the infusion of ‘Chaad Petano Gan,’ a form of ‘Shaari Gaan’ from the folk tradition dating back to the Mughal Era. This urban rendition was discovered among building masons in the 80s and 90s, who migrated to cities in search of livelihoods and sang these verses while toiling to construct concrete roofs.
