Zimbabwe have unveiled a 15-man squad for their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, marking their first red-ball assignment on the subcontinent since 2020.
Veteran all-rounder Sean Williams returns to the fold after recovering from a back injury, while skipper Craig Ervine is back at the helm after missing the Test against Ireland earlier this year due to a late withdrawal.
Zimbabwe Test Squad:
Craig Ervine (captain), Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Ben Curran, Trevor Gwandu, Wessly Madhevere, Wellington Masakadza, Vincent Masekesa, Nyasha Mayavo, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Victor Nyauchi, Tafadzwa Tsiga, Nicholas Welch, Sean Williams.
Several changes headline the squad, including the return of wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga, who has been recalled two years after making his Test debut against the West Indies. Wellington Masakadza also makes a comeback, having last featured in the longest format in 2023.
Wessly Madhevere keeps his place after being a last-minute replacement for Ervine in the Ireland Test, while Nicholas Welch, who scored an impressive 90 on debut, has also been retained.
The only uncapped player in the squad is leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa, earning his maiden Test call-up.
Meanwhile, Joylord Gumbie, Newman Nyamhuri, and Takudzwanashe Kaitano were left out of the selection.
Coach’s View:
Head coach Justin Sammons expressed optimism ahead of the series:
“We are very excited to be heading into a period where Test cricket will be our sole focus. I’m confident this group will continue to grow—both individually and as a team—as they face new challenges in different conditions. The squad has been selected to offer the best possible balance to face whatever comes our way.”
Fixtures:
-
1st Test: April 20–24 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium
-
2nd Test: April 28–May 2 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram
The last time Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh in 2020, the hosts dominated with an innings and 106-run victory in Mirpur, highlighted by an unbeaten double century from Mushfiqur Rahim.
